People!! The title says it all, yes we are in here for the city
where one finds culture at its best and heritage at its peak, KOHAT.
History:
Kohat capital to kohat district is located in the province Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa. Lore states ancient Buddhist king Raja Kohat. Mostly three tribes
reside in the region Afridi, Khattak and Bangash. Little history that was found
was from Emperor Babur’s era, city has gone through many invasion by Mughal to
British and came out as gem. City lies just right at the entrance of Kohat
pass. It seem to have great significance as ISSB center is located in the city
for the recruitment.
Dressing:
People over here was seen wearing famous Kohati chapel and
shalwar kamiz. As we are closing to winter some people were found Chitrali cap
and waistcoat.
Restaurants:
Chapli kabab is most renowned dish of the city, the most
famous and comfy places to eat seems to be Greenhill restaurant and Shelton.
Shopping:
Mud crafts and handcrafts were the most attractive when we
visited various markets. Most famous markets that you can visit are Anarkali
Bazaar, Al Falah Square and Fortress stadium.
Places to stay:
Kohat has range of economic hotels and house for rent easily
available you can even book them online as well. Shelton guest house, Royal
green guest house and Bismillah guest house are best places to spend the night.
Places to visit:
Region is surrounded by mountains which makes the
sightseeing grander. Our greatest
suggestion would be to visit Kohat Tunnel, Tanda Dam(tanda lake), Kohat Fort
and Kushal Ghar.
Tanda Wildlife Park:
Largest park of the province consisting Tanda reservoir,
also the landscape surrounding has range of birds and animals. If you are
someone with love for nature this sight would be it for you. It has Tanda Lake
View Park for people can visit.
Kohat Fort:
The fort was named after King Adh, it is famous for its
location. It has tarnished walls but fort still standing tall for tourist as
striking destination. Having to walk around the fort had bought joy that comes
from beauty, to us.
Friendship Tunnel:
Commonly known Pak-Japan Tunnel is a unique site to visit,
it’s the second longest tunnel of Pakistan and also the longest road tunnel.
This development was done to promote trade skipping the dangers of other route
to the region.
Kushal Ghar Bridge:
If you want to visit one of the river of Pakistan this is
the place to pay visit. The bridge is the crossing between Kushalgarh and Kohat
where Indus River cross them.
Shrines:
Kohat is also known for its Sufism, in the heart of the city
there is Shrine of Harzart Haji Bahadur,
and shrine has its own unique aura. At top of the hill in Jungle Khel Kohat was
located shrine of Bona Baba, the
fountain at his shrine seems to have healing effects. One should not miss to
visit the Shrine of Peer Ghamkol Shareef
located Kohat Peshawar road, shrine seems to be enchanting tourists through
its architecture.
Knowing all of this it is enough for me to visit this place again. Sadly, probably not many of us has ever thought of going there but it has been an amazing experience, I am hoping it would be the same for you !!!!
